If you’ve never heard of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), you’re not alone. But it’s at the core of how I work, and it’s one of the most effective ways I know to help people create real, lasting change within themselves and in their relationships.

A Research-Based Approach to Emotional Connection

Emotionally Focused Therapy is a structured, evidence-based method that helps people understand the emotional cycles they get caught in, especially when relationships feel strained or distant. It’s not about quick fixes or surface-level solutions. EFT helps us look underneath the arguments, the silence, or the overwhelm to see what’s really driving it all.

At its heart, EFT is about connection. We’re all wired to seek safety, closeness, and understanding from the people we love. When that connection feels threatened or uncertain, it can trigger strong emotional reactions, like frustration, withdrawal, or fear, even if we don’t always realize it in the moment.

EFT gives us a way to slow down and make sense of those moments. Together, we work to uncover what’s happening emotionally, both for you and in your relationships, so you can respond in new ways that feel more honest, more grounded, and more connected.

How Attachment Theory and Attachment Therapy Inform EFT

Emotionally Focused Therapy is rooted in attachment theory, which looks at how our early relationships shape the ways we connect with others throughout life. Whether someone tends to pull away, shut down, worry about being left, or reach for connection, these patterns often come from how they learned to relate as a child.

EFT is considered a form of attachment-based therapy that is sometimes called attachment therapy because it focuses on how emotional bonds form, break down, and can be repaired in real time. It helps make those patterns visible and workable in the present, especially in close relationships. We’re not just reacting to what’s happening now. We’re responding through the lens of what connection has felt like over time.

How I Use EFT in Therapy

I use EFT in both individual and couples therapy. For individuals, it can help you understand how past experiences or emotional patterns may be showing up in your current relationships or decisions. For couples, it creates a safe space to explore disconnection, rebuild trust, and strengthen the bond between you.

This isn’t about blame. It’s about making space for what’s real, and learning how to move through it, not around it, with more clarity and care.

What to Expect

You don’t need to come in knowing any of this. That’s my job. I’ll guide you through it. What you can expect is a therapy experience that’s compassionate, collaborative, and focused on what matters most to you.
